Edward (Ted) David Harris was the 8th of 9 children of Alfred Edward Harris and Elizabeth Roxborough Smith. Two of Ted's older brothers had also served in the Australian Defence Forces.
Ted had worked as an apprentice clothing cutter in Ipswich, QLD, in Mt Isa, QLD as a Plumber's Assistant and Pipefitter, and in Goodna, QLD as a Sanitary and General Plumber before starting his own business in Ipswich, QLD as a Tailor and Clothing Manufacturer.
Ted married Marion Miller Morrison in 1942 in Brisbane, QLD
A member of the ALP, Ted held the positions of Minute Secretary (Wynnum Electorate Executive) and President (Manly Branch). He was elected to the Queensland Assembly (Wynnum Electorate) on 28 May 1966 until 7 December 1974
Ted was President of the 24 and 75 Squadrons Association and retired to Mount Tamborine in QLD in 1977
