Merv has always lived in WA. Married Alice after meeting her at a dance. He drove a motorbike with a side car before a vehicle was purchased when the children arrived. They built their own home by making their own bricks. He worked at Metters and then Steelmains before it became Humes, as a furnace operator. He retired and took up golf and annual overseas holidays with Alice until his late 80's. He kept a very healthy lifestyle and was never prescribed any full-time medication. He left his family home of 67 years to enter aged care, dying at 93.
