Cyril was the eldest son of Clarence Daniel Underhill (Born in Bega, NSW) and Florence Isabel Russell (born in Toowoomba, QLD).

Cyril worked as a Shop Assistant in Brisbane, QLD, where he married  Thelma Jean Stewart in 1941. In 1942, Cyril was working as an Assembler for the Aircraft Production Commission and in 1943 he enlisted in the RAAF. Cyril served as a Leading Aircraftman (Service No: 129152) with 84 Operational Base Unit until his Discharge in 1946.

Cyril and Thelma continued to live in Brisbane, QLD where Cyril worked as an Assurance Agent, Superintendent, and Estate Officer. He died in 1999
