Norman, born in 1916 in Sydney NSW was the youngest of two sons of George Walsh (born in Lancashire UK) and Florrie Cornell (born in Kyogle, NSW). George immigrated with his parents and siblings in 1884 and was working as a Fuleman when he married Florrie (a Book Binder) in Sydney, NSW in 1911

Older brother Eric Roy served in the RAAF as a Leading Aircraftman (Service No: 161756) in 1944/1945

Norman married Vida Grace Aldred in 1935 in Marrickville, Sydney, NSW and was working as a Storeman when he enlisted in 1945, serving in the Australian Army as a Corporal (Service No: NX207011) with 5 Base Ordnance Depot. Following his Discharge in 1948, Norman worked as a Clerk in Rockdale, NSW. He and Vida divorced, and =Norman remarried in the early 1950s. He continued to live with his second wife, Gwnedoline Mary, in Rockdale NSW and worked as a Clerk until his death in 1980
