William George Bennett was the sixth of eleven children of James (Harry)Henry Bennett (born 1877 in Perth, WA) and Hannah Louisa Scrivener (born 1886 in Jindivick, Victoria). James and Hannah married in Subiaco in Perth, WA in Subiaco in Perth WA and raised their family at Jarrahdale where James was a Timber Hewer. 

William and his siblings attended the no 6 Bush Saw Mill School, and William's first job was as a Timber Hewer. He was a Market Gardener in Subiaco in perth when he married his first wife Alice White (born 1914 in Maddington, WA) in 1935.

William enlisted in the Australian Army in Subiaco, Perth, WA in January 1940, He served with 2/11th Battalion (the first Western Australian Battalion raised for overseas service in WWII) as a Sergeant (Service No: WX1657). William saw service in the Middle East, Crete, Greece, and Italy, and in New Guinea in 1944/1945. William was Discharged in October 1945 and returned to Western Australia where he worked as a Market Gardener.

Two of William's brothers also served in the Australian Army in WWII - Albert Henry served as a Sergeant (Service No: WX9412) with 2/32 Australian Infantry battalion, and Ivan John served as a Private (Service No: WX35289) with 16 Australian Infantry Battalion.

In August 1947, William (a Poultry Farmer in Maddington, WA) and Alice divorced. William married Christina Godfrey (born 1913 in Roebourne, WA) in 1953 and lived in Orange Grove in Maddington WA and worked as a Poultry Farmer. William died in 1995 and Christina in 1984
