Four RAAF airmen attended ANZAC day commemorations at Adelaide River in the Northern Territory on the 25th of April 1951 but on their return journey to Darwin their car and a truck collided on the highway with two airmen killed and the other two seriously injured:
FAWNS, Kenneth James (Leading Aircraftman) A2822 - killed outright
HUGHES, Alfred Stanley (Leading Aircraftman) A22625 - died in Darwin hospital
PITHERS, Kenneth Raymond (Leading Aircraftman) A22484 - injured
ROBERTSON, Charles Nicholas (Corporal) A112 - injured
