Lawrence was the youngest of three children of Arthur William Phillip Crole (born 1895 in Warragul, Victoria) and Helen Augusta Mary Whish - Wilson (born 1903 in Ringarooma, Tasmania). Arthur, a Farm Manager and later Farmer in Trowutta, Tasmania, and Helen married in 1924 and raised their family there.
Lawrence is from a long family line of militraty servie - Grandfather Frederick Charles Crole, a Sergeant (Service No: 364) with the 4oth Infantry Battalion was KiA in 1917. Father Arthur was a Private (Service No: 1225) with 26th and 40th Battalions in WWI and a Private (Service No: T23419) with the Volunteer Defence Corps 4 Battalion in WWII. Older brother Fred served as a Private (Service No: TX14799/T102580) with 12 Training Battalion in WWII.
Lawrence enlisted in 1950 with the RAAF and served as an Armament Mechanic/Aircraftman (Service No: A6285) with No 77 (Fighter) Squadron in the Korean War. The Squadron was based in Iwakuni and undertook its first missions against the Chinese in November 1950 and supported the Australian 3rd Battalion RAR at Pakchon(https://www.airforce.gov.au). Lawrence was Discharged in July 1953.
Lawrence returned to Tasmania where he was a Hire Car Propietor in Wynyard. he died in Hervey Bay, QLD in 20017
