Marjorie was the only child of Percival (Percy) Carlyle Gavegan (born 1894 at Port Douglas in QLD) and Millicent Alice Sherwood (born 1891 in Yorkshire, England). Percy, a Grocer's Assistant, and Millicent married in Brisbane, QLD in 1919. Percy had served in WWI as a Lance Corporal (Service No:2361), and was WIA in 1916 and 1917.

Marjorie, a Stenographer in Brisbane, QLD, enlisted in the WRAAF in April 1942 (Service Nos:W35043/98980) and was Discharged in February 1946. Marjorie then re-enlisted in January 1951, serving at Laverton and Point Cook until March 1952. In the break between enlistments, Marjorie worked at Lae in New Guinea as a Legal Secretary.

Marjorie's Uncles Val Gavegan (Service No: 380) and Albert Gordon Vaughan (Service No:6879) served in WWI, as did her father Percy. Uncle Arthur Milton Gavegan (Service No:QX9261) served in WWII.

Following her Discharge from the WRAAF in 1952, Marjorie travelled to London where she worked as a Private Secretary until 1960. In 1961 Marjorie married Frantisek (Frank) Antonin Sebesta in Sydney, NSW. Frank, born in Czechoslavakia in 1923, immigrated as a Displaced Person in 1950. Marjorie and Frank settled in Canberra, where Frank worked as a Clerk. Marjorie died in 2005 and Frank in 2011 at Wentworth Falls, NSW.
