Reginald was the youngest of eight children of Henry Griffiths (born 1853 in Launceston, Tasmania) and Louisa (Lucy) Elliott (born 1854 in Hobart Town, Tasmania). Henry was the son of Captain Griffiths, who traded between the Eastern States of Australia, New Guinea and New Zealand. Henry 'followed the sea' for fifteen years before marrying Lucy and working as a Labourer at Emu Bay and Wynyard in Tasmania.
Four of Reginald's older brothers served in the Armed Forces - in WWI, Henry (Service No:1830), Mark (Service No:7206) and John (Service No:7495) , and brother Sydney (Service No:T255831) in WWII.
Reginald married Maud Evelyn Marshall (born 1908 in Devonport, Tasmania) in 1931 in Devonport. Reginald and Maud moved to Melbourne, Victoria where Reginald was a Council Employee. In 1943 he enlisted in the RAAF until his Discharge in December 1945.
After the War, Reginald and Maud settled in Deakin, Victoria where Reginald was a Storekeeper until 1981. Maud died in Melbourne in 1992 and Reginald in 1993.
