Vince McCauley
Vince McCauley joined 461 Squadron in late 1943 as a flight instructor from an Operational training Unit
He was First Pilot on Norman Sheehans crew and became crew captain when Norman Sheehan became tour expired in July 1944
He was part of the 461 Squadron's detachment to Sollum Voe on 30th September 1944 September 1944 and flew the patrol adjacent to the patrol flown by Marsh Godsall on 1st October 1944 when Godsall and crew were lost.
Vince was at the time and remained , for the rest of his life , outraged at the squadrons crews being forced to fly operations in the face of severe electrical storms then sweeping the North Sea causing the loss of the lives of Godsall and crew which Vince attributed to the hubris of those then in command of 461 Squadrons operations
Vince ended the war in 1945 attached to RAAF Headquarters in London .
On his return to Australia he qualified as a Solicitor and established his own legal practice at Mona Vale NSW before retiring to Palm Beach
