Jean was the fifth of six children of James Hannan Cyril Paul (born 1859 in Adelong, NSW) and second wife Sarah Wallace (born 1892 at Caboolture, QLD). James had been a Station Hand in Adelong, NSW before he moved to QLD to manage Spring Meadows Station at Dalby in 1902. He married Sarah at Caboolture in 1915 and they raised their family in Dalby. James was known as a splendid horseman, with a keen interest in stock, He supported and exhibited at the Dalby Show, was a Member of the Northern Downs Jockey Club and President of the Dalby Turf Club (Obituary 13 March 1929). Following her husband's death, Sarah moved to Caboolture.
Jean enlisted in the RAAF in February 1945 and was an Aircraftwoman (Service No:102665) attached to 3 Personnel Depot (Staff) when she was Discharged in April 1946. Brothers Lester Stewart (RAAF; Flight Sergeant; Service No:435791) and James (Jim) Arthur (RAAF; Flight Sergeant; Service No:429393); husband David Walter Bishop (RAN; Able Seaman; Service No:B3280) and Brother in Law Leslie Earl McDonald (ACMF; Service No:Q122673) also served in WWII.
In 1946 Jean married David Walter Bishop (born 1924 in Caboolture, QLD) and they setteld at Caboolture where David was a Labourer, Farmer and Builder. Jean died in 2018 and David in 2003.
