Vale Timothy Jordan Britten.
It is with much sadness that I report the death of Tim Britten, my good mate for 60 years. Tim died on 15 February 2021 after a long period of ill health and then lately, an onset of metastasising cancer.
Tim Britten grew up in Inverell, then graduated from RMC Duntroon in December 1964 as an infantry Lieutenant. He was posted to New Guinea in 1965 for three years (to Goldie River Training Depot then 1 PIR) after which he joined 5RAR at Holsworthy as the Intelligence Officer in early 1968. He continued in that role in South Vietnam until mid-1969 before becoming the 2ic of D Company. His total active service in South Vietnam was from 27 January 1969 to 18 February 1970.
Tim was an outstanding rugby union inside centre with sharp speed and fearless tackling, representing RMC 1st XV for three years (captain in 1964), Colleagues and Army in Port Moresby (1965-1967) and Parramatta 1st grade in 1968. He also represented the Australian Army in the combined Services competition.
Tim is remembered fondly by all those who served with him as an honest, reliable, dependable and courageous soldier.
His funeral is at Sydney’s Northern Suburbs Crematorium East Chapel at 1530 hours, Friday 19 February 2021.
He is survived by Pamie, his son William, daughter Annabelle, grandsons Ned and George and sisters Helen and Jane.
