Wallace was the third of four children of Alexander Strathdee (born 1869 in Scotland) and Ellen Annie Harris (born 1880 at Emu Plains via Bowen, QLD). Alexander, the son of a Crofter, immigrated to QLD in 1888, arriving in Moreton Bay on board the Duke of Argyll. He married Ellen in October 1900 at Ravenswood, QLD where he was a Mine Manager. By 1912 Alexander was a Licensed Victualler at the New Ravenswood Hotel, and by 1913 the family had moved to Ayr, QLD where Alexander was a Farmer.
Wallace was a Farmer at Ayr, QLD when he enlisted in the RAAF in February 1941. He was a Corporal (Service No:24815) attached to 5 Communications Unit when he was Discharged in January 1946. Brother Daniel Bruce Strathdee (Sapper, Service No:Q112028) also served in WWII.
Returning from Service, Wallace was working as a Spray Painter in Brisbane, QLD when he met Kathleen Emma Teresa Cockburn (nee Saunders, born 1900 in Maryborough, QLD). They moved to Sydney, NSW until Kathleen's Divorce was finalised - and married in May 1952. Wallace worked as a Shop Assistant and Kathleen as a Milliner before they returned to Brisbane in 1956. They settled at Fairfield in Brisbane, QLD where Wallace worked as a Clerk. Following Kathleen's death in 1985 Wallace moved back to Ayr, QLD where he died in 1999.
