Ralph was the eldest of two children of William Isaac Davey (born 1872 in White Hills, Victoria) and first wife Margaret Ann Findlay (born 1871 in Learmonth, Ballarat, Victoria). William and Margaret married in 1892 in Melbourne, Victoria and lived in Bendigo where William was a Salesman. Margaret died in 1912 and William remarried twice, having an further three children.
Ralph was living at Heidelberg in Victoria and working as a Dairyman when he enlisted in the Australian Army in July 1940. He served with 2/11 Field Regiment (which was deployed to the Middle East in 1941 and to Bougainville in New Guinea in 1944/1945). Ralph was a Lance Bombardier when he was Discharged in November 1945. Brothers-in-Law Francis (Private, Service No:Q108445) and Denis Charles (Private, Service No:Q148286) Tite and Walter Cleveland Jarrett (Private, Service Nos:NX11747/QX32790) also served in WWII.
In December 1945 Ralph was in Ipswich, QLD when he married Joan Maureen Tite (born 1922 in Ipswich, QLD). Maureen returned to Heidelberg, Victoria with Ralph where he was a Dairy Farmer. Ralph and Maureen moved to Eltham in Heidelberg to retire. Ralph died in 2005 and Maureen in 2019.
