Morton was the youngest of ten children of Elijah Barker (born 1851 in Norfolk, England) and second wife Jane Allen (born 1863 in Cygnet, Tasmania). Elijah arrived in Launceston, Tasmania in 1855 on board the Whirlwind, and was a Farmer when he married Jane in 1887 in Burnie, Tasmania.
Morton was a Labourer at Table Cape in Tasmania when he married Freda Marion Moles (born 1911 at Sisters Creek, Tasmania) in Burnie in 1932. Morton and Freda settled in Table Cape where Morton was a Labourer when he enlisted in the AMF in December 1941. He was a Private (Service No:TX6525) attached to 24 Australian Employment Coy when he was Discharged in January 1945. Brothers Osborne James (Private; Service No:6238), Oliver Allen (Private; Service No:4447), Francis George (Private; Service No:7698) served in WWI and Geoffrey Harold (T29949) served in the ACMF in WWII.
Morton and Freda settled at Wynyard in Tasmania where Morton worked as a Patrolman. In the early 1960s Morton, Freda and their children moved to Mackay, QLD where Morton died in 1973, Freda died in 1994.
