Mac was the youngest child of Donal Michael McSweeney (born 1894 in Sydney, NSW) and Ruby Hastings Aiken (born 1895 in Sydney, NSW). Donal was a Waggon Driver in Sydney, NSW when he married Ruby (a Machinist) in 1916. They settled in Sydney and in 1918 Donal briefly enlisted in the AIF (Private; Service No:86554). Donal worked as a Lorry Driver.
Mac was a Carrier in Sydney in 1942 when he enlisted in the Australian Army. He served as a Bombardier (Service Nos:NX134211/N49985) and was attached to 14th Field Regiment when he was Discharged in November 1945. Brother Donald (Flight Lieutenant; Service No:421445) also served in WWII.
Returning to Sydney, Mac worked as a Carter and in 1947 married Mary Leslie Stow (nee Austin, born 1922 in Albury, NSW). Mac and Mary settled in Sydney where Mac worked as a Carrier, before retiring to the Gold Coast, QLD. Mas died in 2009 and Mary in 2012.
