Rita was the fourth of five children of Sinclair James McGibbon (born 1875 in Kew, Victoria) and Rettie Paltridge Paterson (born 1880 on Kangaroo Island in South Australia). Sinclair - a Chartered Accountant moved to Perth, WA in 1896 and established S J McGibbon and Coy Public Accountants. He and Rettie married in Perth in 1900 and settled there to raise their family. Sinclair practised as an Accountant, and in 1909 was Assistant Commissioner to the WA Public Sector Commissioner. He Chaired the WA Consultative Council in 1925 - established to raise funds to 'combact Communist activity and industrial lawlessness' (Who's Who in Australia 1929).
Rita was engaged in voluntray work with the Red Cross Society - as a Clerk, organising the Blood Transfusion Service and Blood Bank, and with the PoW Department. In March 1943 she enlisted in the WRAAF (Section Officer; Service No:105474) and served at Pearce Airforce Base in WA, and Mildura and Frognal Bases in Victoria. She was Discharged in July 1945. Brothers Kenneth (Lieutenant; Service No:WX32861) and John (Pilot Officer; Service no:42729) also served in WWII.
In 1945 Rita married Thomas St Elmo Robinson (born 1896 in Maidstone, Victoria) and they settled in Melbourne where Thomas was a Merchant. Rita continued voluntary work with the Red Cross Societcy. Rita died in 1997 and Thomas in 1966.
