Noel was the only child of Walter James Hilder (born 1901 in Sydney, NSW) and Doris May Crum (born 1903 in Sydney, NSW). Walter (a Boilermaker) and Doris married in Sydney in 1924.
Noel enlisted in the ACMF in January 1943 and was a Gunner (Service No:N468893) attached to 11th Battalion Volunteer Defence Corps when he was Discharged in October 1943.
Noel was a Travelling Salesman in Sydney, NSW in 1948 when he married Patricia Mae Williams (born 1930 in Worona, NSW). In the early 1950s Noel and Patricia relocated to Ulladulla, NSW where Noel worked as a Hawker and a Draper, Patricia died in 2010 and Noel in 2011.
