He was 28 and the son of Mrs. A. Allen, of 39, Carlton St., Portadown, County Armagh, Northern Ireland and sometime of 3 Queen's Street, Portadown, County Armagh, Northern Ireland.

He is one of five Australian soldier casualties of the Great War honoured on the Portadown War Memorial. William Allen is also on the Portadown, St. Mark's Church War Memorial.
William is also honoured on the Moy War Memorial.
Moy is a village and townland in County Tyrone, now in Northern Ireland about 5 miles (8 kilometres) southeast of Dungannon and beside the smaller village of Charlemont. Charlemont is on the east bank of the River Blackwater in county Armagh and Moy is on the west bank. Moy War Memorial [Unveiled 11/11/1925-Armistice Day] is situated in the centre of the village ‘square’. [post code BT71 7SG

His cousin, Private Herbert Fosbery Allen, Service Number 4310, 20th Battalion, was killed in action on 5 August 1916.
