Roland Gordon BENSLEY was born on 23rd April, 1897 in Southgate, England

His parents were Roland BENSLEY who was a Farmer and Annie Frances RUNNALLS who married in September quarter 1885 in Holborn, UK

Ronald arrived in Adelaide as an infant with his parents & siblings on 31st March, 1899 on the ship Orizaba

His siblings were Lillian, Violet, Hilda, Leonard, Gladys, Kathleen & Stella

Biography

"THE LATE CORPORAL G. BENSLEY.

Mrs. Bensley Neale, of Port Pirie, has received news that her brother, Corporal Gordon Bensley, died of wounds on September 16. He enlisted from Port Pirie, and entered camp on September 4, 1915. He became a corporal, and sailed to Egypt. Later on he proceeded to France, where he was killed. He was a prominent worker at St. Paul's Church, and carried the cross for the enthronement of the Bishop of Willochra. Prior to enlisting he was employed at the Globe Timber Mills. He was a brother-in-law of Lieutenant H. R Neale, and was only 19 at the time of his death." - from the Adelaide Chronicle 28 Oct 1916 (nla.gov.au)
