Son of Andrew Wilson Veitch and Margaret Veitch nee McHenry of Ascot Street, Ballarat, Victoria.
Brother of Andrew Wilson Veitch who returned to Australia on 5 July 1919 having served with the 37th Battalion; Hugh Ramsay Veitch who returned to Australia on 11 February 1919 having served with the 3rd Pioneer Battalion.
Commenced return to Australia on 20 April 1919 aboard HT Boonah disembarking on 8 June 1919
