World War 1 was a military conflict lasting from 1914-1918. World War 1 involved to opposing alliances the Allies and the Central Powers. The countries of the Allies were Russia, France, British Empire, Italy, United States, Japan, Rumania, Serbia, Belgium, Greece, Portugal and Montenegro.The countries of the Central Powers included Germany, Austria - Hungary, Turkey and Bulgaria.
The main cause that sparked World War 1 was the assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand on the 28th of June. Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was the nephew of Emperor Franz Josef and heir to the throne of Austria and Hungary. The assassination took place in Sarajevo and was planned by a Serbian terrorist group called The Black Hand and the man who shot Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie was a man named Gavrilo Princip.
The main causes of World War 1 were that there was a tangle of alliances made between countries, to maintain a balance of power in Europe which brought about the scale of conflict, countries were building their military forces, arms and battleships and countries wanted to regain lost territories from previous conflicts and build empires.
John William Aylett was born Leeds Yorkshire, England. The exact day he was born is still unknown but the month and year was roughly March 1888. John was a small person, he was 5 foot 8/9 and quite light as well weighing 140 lbs. He had greenish/blue eyes, a long scar on his left temple and brown hair. Before he enlisted for war he was a blacksmith which is a person who makes and repairs things made of iron. His mother was Emily Aylett and his father was James Aylett. Before the war he had previously served with the volunteer yeomanry for 3 years.
John William Aylett enlisted on 8 December 1914 in the 11th Light Horse Regiment, C Squadron, Australian Imperial Force, with the rank of Private, Number 469. John William Aylett was embarked of the 2nd of June 1915 at age 26 and 8 months. The place of embarkation was Brisbane and the ship was the HMAT Medic A7. John’s AWM embarkation roll number was 10/16/1. John got sick and was admitted to Oaklands Fields Hospital on the 28/2/1915 he spent 14 days in hospital and was discharged on the 13/3/1915. Oaklands Hospital is located at 19 Lancaster Road Salford Greater Manchester i n the United Kingdom.In Mitcham on the 2/4/1915 John was punished for disobedience of orders his punishment was 7 days CB. On the 3/5/1915 in Enoggera. He also got caught breaking out of camp and fired a E-11 which was a blaster rifle. Then in Sydney on the 16/6/1915 he was punished for being absent without leave from 4pm on the 4/6/1915 till 10pm 11/6/1915 his punishment was he fired an E1. He was discharged 10/6/15 for being a bad character. He was promoted to the C squadron 11th Light Horse on the 16/3/1915. John was discharged as being unlikely to become an efficient soldier on the 6/11/1915.
