Arthur trained with the 9th Light Horse, 15th Reinforcement at Mitcham before being attached to the Officers’ School of Instruction from 16 February to 31 March 1916. He was appointed A Coy Sergeant from 1 September to 30 September and received his commission on 1 October.
On 28 February 1918, Arthur embarked from Melbourne on board HMAT Nestor and arrived at Liverpool, England, on 20 April, from where he was stationed with the 1st Training Battalion, Special List at Sutton Veny. He was sent to France via Southampton on 20 July and served with the 32nd Battalion from 27 July.
Arthur was treated for a flat foot condition by the 10th Field Ambulance on 11 August on 18 August he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, AIF Depot, United Kingdom. Arthur spent two days in hospital in England with myalgia in early September.
He was selected in March 1919 as a member of the joint Australian and English mission proceeding to Morocco. Upon completion of furlough in May, Arthur boarded Beltana on 2 June for the return journey to Australia and was discharged on 18 October 1919.
Arthur was awarded the 1914/15 Star, British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
Arthur Raine had lived at Mylor and died at Norwood, Adelaide on 13 October,1971 aged 89. He was buried at West Terrace Cemetery.1.
