Private Charles William Mills

Charles was a Farmer (30 years of age) from Mungurigan, Gilston, via Nerang, Southport, QLD when he enlisted on 22 January 1916 in Brisbane, QLD.
Charles served with the 11th Machine Gun Company as a Private (Service No:105) and embarked per HMT Borda on 12 July 1916.
On 18 January 1917, Charles was Wounded In Action (multiple Gun Shot Wounds) at Boulogne in France. He returned to Australia per A35 Berring on 31 October 1917.
Charles was awarded the 1914.15 Star, the British War Medal (No 19416( and the Victory Medal (No 18678).
Following his Discharge, Charles returned to Farming at Mungurigan, Gilston, via Nerang, Southport, QLD until his death in 1968

Charles was the fourth of six children (sons) of George Mills (born 1841 in Nottinghamshire, England) and Laurina (Minnie) Hockridge (born 1857 in Glamorganshire, Wales). George was an Agricultural Labourer when he immigrated in January 1865, arriving at Keppel Bay in QLD on board the Landsborough. Minnie was eighteen years of age when she arrived in Maryborough, QLD in 1875 on board the Great Queensland. George and Minnie married in 1876 at Pimpama via Nerang in QLD and settled at Gilston via Nerang where George was a Farmer.

Charles was a Farmer at Mungurigan in Gilston via Nerang, QLD when he enlisted in the AIF in January 1916. He served as a Private (Service No:105) with 11th Machine Gun Company 3rd Australian Division and was WiA (multiple GSW)in France in January 1917. Charles was Discharged in February 1918. Older brother George Henry (Private, Service No:189) served with the 6th Queensland Imperial Bushmen and was KiA at Paardphutz in South Africa in October 1901.

Charles returned to Mungurigan and was a Farmer in August 1918 when he married Alice Helen Dyer (born 1897 in Brisbane, QLD) at Nerang, QLD. Charles and Alice remained at Mungurigan until retirement, when they moved into Southport. Charles died in 1968 and Alice in 1975.
