Joseph Adame was born Giuseppe Adami in Tubach Switzerland in 1895. He migrated to Australia in 1912 and settled in Tamworth where he worked as a chaffeur. His employer was a vet so he became familiar with horses and subsequently joined the Light Horse but did not embark. He married Hazel May Rushbrook in 1920 and they settled in Sydney, NSW. He enlisted in the army again in 1942.
