He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 23 October 1914 and embarked at Fremantle for overseas on 8 February 1915 per HMAT "Mashobra" (A47), initially served as a Trooper with the 10th Light Horse Brigade, transferred to 68th Australian Royal Flying Corps on 14 December 1916. He died of influenza and broncho-pneumonia at the A.F.C. Hospital, Tetbury, Gloucestershire, aged 28 years.
Brother of Leon Joseph Senateur Buland of 43 Rue Auguste Comte, Le Havre, France.
