He was born 24th February 1882 at Oxley Island, Taree, New South Wales, the son of John Allan and his wife Isabella Gollan. He was educated at Wingham Public School. Employed as a bookmaker he attested on 16th June 1915 and was part of the 8th reinforcements for his battalion. He was 5ft 8 and half inches in height with hazel eyes, black hair and of a dark complexion. He was taken on strength of the battalion on 24th October 1915. He arrived in Marseilles from Alexandria on 8th June 1916. He was killed in action on 14th August 1916. He is buried in Grave XIV S3 Ovillers Military Cemetery Somme France. His body was recovered from a spot near Thiepval (Map Ref 57d.R.21.d.3.0 and identified by means of his identity disc.
