"...3757 Private Walter Grimett Allom, 25th Battalion, of Toowoomba, Qld. A surveyor's assistant prior to enlistment, he embarked from Brisbane with the 9th Reinforcements aboard HMAT Wandilla on 31 January 1916. Later transferring to the 49th Battalion, he arrived with his unit in France in June 1916. In the battalion's second assault on Mouquet Farm, launched on 3 September 1916, Pte Allom suffered gun shot wounds to his legs. He was transferred to the 4th Australian General Hospital at Camiers, where he died of wounds on 13 September 1916, aged 23.
