Personal Stories
Enlisting in WW1
James Austin Alan Schroder (1883-1957) was one of 11 children born to Albert William Schroder and Isabella Liddle. I suspect he dropped his surname Schroder when he enlisted in 1916 in World War I. He listed his aunt Sarah Liddle, a schoolmistress, as his next of kin even though both parents were both alive. This was also an attempt to distance himself from his Schroder surname.
