Sergeant Charles Castles (Service Nos:V144997/VX126944) initially served in the ACMF, enlisting on 23 December 1941 in Melbourne as a Private - graded Nursing Orderly - attached to 107 Convalescent Unit. By 23 July 1943 he was a Sergeant attached to 30 Camp Hospital Ballarat when he transferred 'in the field' to the AIF. Sergeant Castles served in New Guinea (13 March 1944 - 11 April 1945) with Australian New Guinea Administrative (ANGA) Unit, and was Discharged on 26 July 1945.

Charlie was born in Melbourne, Victoria in 1903, only son of Charles Castles (b1871 in Melbourne, Victoria) and Mary Tatt. Charles Snr (a Labourer) died in 1910.

Charlie worked as a Salesman/Commercial Traveller in Melbourne where, in 1929, he married Grace (Gracie) Nancy Warren Hosking (b1905 in Melbourne, Victoria) - Gracie was working in Melbourne as a Clerk. Charlie and Gracie settled in Melbourne where they raised their family and Charlie was a Salesman/Commercial Traveller. Charlie died in 1979.
