Leading Aircraftman Peter Royal Hosking (Service No:125277) enlisted in the RAAF at No 1 Recruiting Centre Melbourne on 7 December 1942 as an Aircraftman I - mustered as Trainee Technical and remustered as Flight Mechanic and then Fitter. Promoted to Leading Aircraftman on 6 September 1943, he was attached to General Reconnaissnace School at Discharge on 17 December 1945.
Roy was born in Surrey Hills, Sydney, NSW in 1907, second of five children of Peter Hosking (b1873 at Mt Egerton, Moorabool, Victoria) and Evelin Ward Lott (b1884 at Branxholme, Victoria). Peter (a Teleoperator) and Evelin married in 1905 in Melbourne, Victoria and lived in Adelaide, SA and Sydney NSW before settling by 1917 in Melbourne, where they raised their family and Peter was a Mechanic.
Roy was working as a Salesman in Melbourne where, in 1938, he married Olga Violet Murray (b1916 in Melbourne, Victoria). In 1942, Roy was a Service Manager in the Electrical Workshop of Economic Vacuum Cleaners when he enlisted in the RAAF. Following his Discharge, Roy and Olga settled in Melbourne, where they raised their family and Roy worked as a Manager and Storeman. By 1980 Roy and Olga had retired to Coombabah on the Gold Coast in QLD, where Roy died in 1982 and Olga in 1987.
