Son of William Unwin and Catherine Unwin nee Hennessy of Hawker, SA.
Next of kin given as his grandmother Mary Hennessy of Wallaroo, SA following her death the next of kin became his aunt M. McInnes of Mt. Lyndhurst Station, Farina, SA.
24 February 1916 - enlisted at Kadina with the 48th Battalion with the rank of Private.
17 March 1917 - promoted to Lance Corporal. Later promoted to Corporal and Sergeant but each time reverted back to Lance Corporal.
11 April 1917 - wounded. Severe wound to the left shoulder
