Tom was one of four children of Thomas (Bert) Gilbert Brown (b1895 in Port Augusta, South Australia) and Ethel (Florence) Edith Wright (b1896 in Goulburn, NSW). Bert (a Butcher) and Florence married in Fremantle WA in 1919. Bert had served his apprenticeship in Broken Hill, NSW and served in WWI (Private; Service No:1695). Bert and Florence settled in Fremantle WA.
Tom enlisted in the RAAF (Service No:406855) in April 1941 and was a Warrant Officer attached to HQ Western Area when he was Discharged in September 1945. In October 1942 - as a Sergeant - Tom survived an air crash (Wellington BK311) at Elsham in Lincolnshire, England - Pilot lost control on approach to the airfield in extremely windy conditions. The aircraft caught fire and burnt out - five were killed (RAF Elsham Wolds).
Returning to Fremantle WA, Tom's occupation in the 1949 Census is listed as 'RAAF'. In 1951 he was a Civil Servant when he married Elizabeth (Betty) Jane Dyson in Fremantle WA. Tom and Betty settled in the Fremantle region where Tom worked as a Civil Servant. Tom died in 2008 and Betty in 2013.
