Mick was the youngest of seven children of Aron Nolan (b1879 in Oatlands, Tasmania) and Mona Mabel Barker (b1889 in Port Frederick, Tasmania). Aron served in the Boer War (Private; Service No:301) and was a Farmer in Penguin, Tasmania where he and Mona married in 1908. The family lived in Penguin, Table Cape, Detention River and Sisters Creek where Aron was a Farmer.

Mick enlisted with the RAN in February 1941 (Ordinary Seaman, Able Seaman; Service No:H1520) and served on a number of ships, includng HMAS Cerberus, Derwent, Swan, Penguin, Rushcutter, Magnetic, Hobart and Lonsdale. He was attached to HMAS Huon when he was Discharged in November 1945.

In 1943 in Sydney, NSW Mick married Thelma (Judy) May Quinn (b1924 in Sydney, NSW) - Judy was working as a Launderess in Erskinville. Following his Discharge Mick and Judy lived in Montumana and Penguin, Tasmania where Mick was a Farmer. By 1980 the couple had separated and Mick retired to Murwillumbah, NSW where he died in 2007. Judy died in QLD in 2008.
