Military Medal citation:
'For conspicuous gallantry in action on 3rd May 1917 in the HINDENBURG Line, laying and repairing telephone lines under intense artillery fire and Machine Gun fire. At one time he worked continuously for 5 hours in the open showing an exemplary disregard of danger and displaying both courage and endurance.'
