The Cumberland and Fruitgrowers Advocate Saturday 04 May 1918 page 10
The Red Cross letter, dated November 16, said: 'We have just received from our
agents in London the following cable, husband of Mrs. Astridge, of Kerr's-road,
Lidcombe, was killed in action in France on 2nd April. He leaves a family of three
children. He belonged to the 45th Battalion, and was 40 years of age. He left
for the front on 10th. May, 1917, and spent some time at Salisbury Plains, England.
He had been in France since October last. Before enlisting he had resided in Lidcombe about four years, during most of which time he was employed by the Water and Sewerage Board. His father, who is still alive and resides at Newtown, will
be remembered by many old hands of the district as station-master at Granville for
some time.
