Rainford was born as Thomas Rainford BUCKMAN in 1895 at Grenfell, NSW

His parents were Robert Thomas BUCKMAN & Sarah PALMER who married on 12th September, 1894 at the Grenfell Catholic Church

He enlisted in Lithgow on 13th August, 1915 & embarked as a Private with the 1st Light Horse Regiment, 13th Reinforcements on the HMAT Aeneas on 20th December, 1915

He returned to Australia on 22nd May, 1919 on the ship Durham which arrived on 22nd July, 1919 & was discharged on 13th September, 1919

Units:  1st Light Horse Regiment, 5th Australian Divisional Ammunition Column & 50th Australian Field Artillery Battery

Rainford died on 27th September, 1920 at "Woodville" Red Cross Home in Randwick of Pulmonary Tuberculosis and is buried in Rookwood Cemetery in Sydney where he has a Memorial Plaque

His name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial
