Born in 1924 in Glasgow, Scotland Tom emigrated in the late 1920s with his parents (Thomas Stewart Jackson Thomson (b1888 in Perthshire, Scotland) and Margaret Watson Frazer Keltie (b1891 in Lanarkshire, Scotland) - and five siblings. Thomas Snr (a Labourer) and Margaret married in 1914 in Perthshire, Scotland and settled in Melbourne, Victoria where Thomas Snr worked as a Labourer and Sandblaster.
Tom was eighteen years of age when he enlisted in the RAN in 1943 (Ordinary Seaman; Service No:PM5683) and his service included HMAS Cerberus, Penguin, Platypus, Lonsdale and Moreton. He was an Able Seaman attached to HMAS Lonsdale when he Discharged in November 1945.
In 1954 in Melbourne Victoria, Tom married Rose Ellen Taylor (b1928 in Melbourne, Victoria) and the couple lived at Blackwood, Victoria where Tom was a Stationhand before settling in Healesville in the mid 1960s where Tom was a Mechanic on the Research Farm. Tom died in 1988 and Rose in 2022.
