"Rev. W. H. Miller.
When on his way to Hospital to see his dying wife, the Rev. W.H.. Miller, Anglican Priest at Wallaroo, collapsed and died 20 minutes after his wife's death. A double funeral took place.
The deaths of the Rev. Walter Harold Miller (Rector of St. Mary's, Anglican, Wallaroo), and his wife, Ruby Gwendoline Miller, which occurred under such tragic circumstances at Wallaroo on Monday, October 5, are deeply deplored by parishioners and a wide circle of friends, to whom they had endeared themselves during the years term in the parish, of Wallaroo and district. Mr Miller was the third son of, the late Mr and Mrs P.G. Miller, of Mitcham, where he was born and received his education. After nine years with the civil service at Adelaide, he resigned for the purpose of entering St. Barnabas' College, where he received his training for the ministry, and was ordained 28 years ago. He served as a Padre in the Great War for 2 1/2 years at Salisbury Plain, England, and other places. Upon his return from the war heserved at the following parishes:--Peterborough, Bordertown, Morgan, Largs Bay, Croydon, West Coast, Unley, Port Augusta, Minlaton and Wallaroo. While at Minlaton, Mr Miller had - an illness, and prior to coming to Wallaroo was engaged for eighteen months in Home Mission work. During his period at Wallaroo, Mr Miller had a strenuous time, particularly since the outbreak of the present war, he being in charge of St. Mary's, Wallaroo, All Saints Moonta; Christ Church, Kadina; and St. Margaret's, Paskeville. He was chairman of the Ministers' Fraternal at Wallaroo,"to which he had given loyal and valued service. A striking tribute to the unity of purpose and the brotherhood existing between the ministers at Wallaroo, was paid by the Rev. T. Williams at the Congregational Church on Sunday evening, October 11th. He spoke of "the sad loss sustained by the death of our dear brother, who was of sterling character, and always willing to assist whenever possible." One minute's silence was observed as a token of respect. Mr Miller was chairman of the local school committee, and vice-president of the local R.S.A. branch. Besides his only child, Miss Faith Miller, he is survived by Messrs E. F. Miller (Unley road, Malvern), and Mr R. H.Miller (Whyalla), brothers; also Mesdames Chappel (Halton Gardens), Moffatt (Fullarton), Cole (Melbourne) Miss G. M. Miller (Hyde Park;), and the Sister Lucia (North Adelaide), sisters." - from the Kadina and Wallaroo Times 16 Oct 1942
