Son of Terence and Jane HORAN; husband of May HORAN, "Langlea", The Esplanade, Hurstville, New South Wales.
Private George Richard Horan (killed) was born at Ermington, Parramatta River, and after leaving school joined the Railway Department (telegraph branch), and afterwards spent some years in West Australia as station-master at Dongarra. Returning to this State, he entered business for himself at Ariah Park, but when war broke out handed it over to an agent to dispose of and enlisted with the 13th Infantry Battalion as bandsman. He took part in the historic landing on April 25 and remained in the trenches until August 7, when he met his end. The deceased was a good musician, a member of the Naturalists' Society and of the Association for the Advancement of Science (1911), possessed the Technical College certificate for sanitation, and the railway ambulance certificate. In addition he was a field and wireless operator.
