"RETURNED SOLDIER'S TRAGIC DEATH. Shot While Hunting Game
Frank Edward Porter, 40, employed as a telegraph linesman at Jamestown, was fatally shot on Saturday, near Hamley Bridge. Porter and his wife and two children went for a walk, Porter taking a .22 rifle. He left his wife, and went alone in search of game, and was to have met her at the other side of a hillock. Mrs. Forter waited, but when her husband did not arrive, she decided that he had gone in another direction, and she and the children returned home, expecting to find him there. Shortly afterwards she spoke to neighbors, who made a search. At 8.30 p.m. Porter was found unconscious by Mrs. Edith Sparrow. Porter was taken to the Riverton Hospital, with a bullet wound in the head, and he died at 3 a.m. on Sunday. Porter, who was a returned soldier, and had intended to take part in the Anzac Day celebrations both in Hamley Bridge and Adelaide, was buried in the Soldiers' Cemetery, West terrace." - from the Adelaide Chronicle 06 May 1937 (nla.gov.au)
