About This Unit
The colony of New South Wales was the first to have an Army Nursing Service, albeit as a Reserve unit. However, as such, they were also the first to be able to form a contingent and send fourteen nurses, under the control of Lady Superintendant Nellie Gould, to South Africa to minister to the troops fighting in the second Anglo-Boer War.
