56th Infantry Battalion (NSW) 14th Brigade, 5th Division, AIF

About This Unit

The 56th was the last of the four Battalions of the 14th Brigade all drawn largely from NSW, that were to become part of the 5th Division, raised in Egypt for the Western Front.  The 53rd was the 'pup' Battalion of the 4th Battalion.   Its colour patch comprised a vertically aligned rectangle signifying the 5th Division.  The green bar on the right signified the 14th Brigade and the white bar on the left the fourth of the four battalions in the brigade.
