8th Infantry Brigade Headquarters AIF. 8th Brigade, 5th Division

About This Unit

The 8th Brigade was formed in Australia around June 1915. The recruits for the Battalions that formed the Brigade were part of the Gallipoli recruitment drive and thus having already seen the horrors of war knew what they were signing up for. Having emabrked from Australia bound for Egypt in late 1915 the 8th Brigade was assigned to the newly created 5th Division in February 1916, being the first brigade of the division. The Brigade, itself was made of a motely mix of Battalion's from around Australia with no more than one battalion from a certain state. It included the:

29th Battalion (/explore/units/111) (VIC),

30th Battalion (/explore/units/240) (NSW),

31st Battalion (/explore/units/99) (QLD / VIC) and the

32nd Battalion (/explore/units/4) (SA / WA)
