No matter how you choose to spend this Australia Day, spare a moment to remember those who have served and those who have sacrificed so much.
We will remember them |
Today we think of Graham Norley, who died on Australia Day 1968, from a gunshot wound, the result of his involvement with the 2nd Battalion Royal Australian Regiment in Bien Hoa Province, South Vietnam. Graham Norley began his military career in October 1961 with the CMF in 13th Field Regiment. He enlisted in the Regular Army and after recruit training became a rifleman. Graham Norley served in several of the battalions of the Royal Australian Regiment as a rifleman and NCO. He saw active service in Sarawak, Borneo during the Indonesian Confrontation and served in other areas of South East Asia. Corporal Norley was killed in an enemy contact in Bien Hoa Province, north of the Australian Task Force HQ at Nui Dat, South Vietnam whilst on patrol during Operation Coburg. |
