Emigrated aged 18.
He was 21 and the son of William F. J. and Jane Barrette, of 2, Mount Pleasant Villas, Rue Rouge, Guernsey, Channel Isles.
He is commemorated on the Guernsey-St Peter Port War Memorial which is a Memorial Garden with wall and column topped with a statue of a soldier. Metal plaques are mounted on the wall (for WWI) and on the column (for WWII). Memorial unveiled on 19th September 1926 by Sir Charles Sackville-West.
He is one of two Australian Great War casualties to be honoured on this war memorial - the other is Guernsey born, 2362 Pte. Harold De Garis (/explore/people/63760) of the 13th Battalion, Australian Infantry, A.I.F. who died of wounds 15 August 1916.
