Cecil Alwyn CHEADLE was born in Barraba, New South Wales in 1894

His parents were Charles CHEADLE & Elizabeth Jane WHITE who married in NSW in 1893

He enlisted in Sydney on 11th July, 1917 and embarked with the 56th Infantry Battalion, 10th reinforcements from Sydney on 31st October, 1917

He was wounded in the neck by an exploding shell and died from his wounds on 21st July, 1918 & is buried in the St Pierre Cemetery at Amiens, France

His name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial and on the Cenotaph & Honour Roll in Inverell

His brother Reginald Charles CHEADLE (SN 1587) served in WW1 and returned to Australia in 1919 & also enlisted in WW2 (SN N 237461) with the Volunteer Defence Force - he died in 1948
