Memories of the war
On ANZAC day 2018 Dad is one of the last survivors of the Pacific campaign from 2/4th Armoured Regiment Bougainville Solomon Islands. Landing with the Matilda tanks was at Torokina.
Dad said when they landed he had a knot in his stomach which never left him until he left. He said that had the War not ended it was only a matter of time before he too was killed and that upon the Surrender the Japanese actually came out of the jungle behind the lines of what the Australians had believed had been under their control.
