3495A Gunner (Gnr) Harold Constantine 5th DAC

Following the success of Le Hamel on 4 July, and the August offensive 8-11 August, King George V, who had been one of Monash's advocates, visited the Australian Corps Headquarters at Chateau Bertangles on 12 August. A display of some of the captured war material was on display along with a large turnout of troops.

Front row, seated: 19616 Gnr Frank Orman Ball and 19634 Gnr Allan Lyle McPherson (later MM). These men embarked for service overseas with the 8th Field Artillery Brigade aboard HMAT Medic (A7) on 20 May 1916 (Gnrs McPherson, Whiting and Ball from Sydney and Gnrs McKenzie and Simmonds from Melbourne). Gnr Mason, a printer from Corrowa, NSW, prior to enlistment, died of wounds in Belgium on 27 September 1917, aged 22. The other five men survived the war.

Northern Australia. Consolidated PBY-5 Catalina flying boat aircraft, RAAF serial no. A24-53, ?No.11 or No. 20 Squadron RAAF, taxiing into water with assistance from RAAF personnel. This aircraft was delivered to the RAAF in 1943-04 and shot down over Balikpapan, Borneo 1944-04.

This is the Australian convalescent hospital, al Hayat, Helouan, Egypt, which is where William went when he was wounded.

This is the Australian Hospital ship ‘S.S. Kyarra’, that William travelled back to Australia on. This photo was taken on the 6/12/14.

Absent is FSGT BLACKWELL the mid upper gunner The aircraft behind them is not the one in which they were lost on 1/2 January ('PO-K'). It is 'PO-M' a unit workhorse as evidenced by the 53 missions it had flown at this time (presumed to be late 1943). 'PO-M' features in two other images; AWM UK0463.jpg which 'captured' the aircraft at an earlier point in its career, on 31 August 1943 when it had completed 40 missions and had its designation changed from 'PO-U' to 'PO-M'. Another image on the 467 Squadron page features this aircraft at the same time - 31 August 1943 with its crew.
